It's almost here - just a few hours left

Bring on 2008!!

Now, usually I would be very upset to not have any set plans on New Years eve, but this year I am just waiting for it be over with already!  I've had my fair share of NYE parties.  Several in Philly on a Market St. hotel balcony and of course once in Times Square (my most memorable).  Philly is a great place for NYE, and my heart longs for watching the Mummers Parade.

This past weekend, my EX moved out.  I took the foster kittens to adoption day, and by the time we got back, he was gone as was the majority of the furniture.  Most of the furniture we had purchased as a couple and when we decided to split up, he paid me for my half.  Fine by me!  I want a clean slate for 2008.  In less than 2 weeks, I move into the adorable (but small) townhouse to which my new furniture will be delivered.  Until then, I'm sleeping on a surprisingly comfortable air mattress.

I wish you all a happy, fun, and safe New Year's Eve~!

*Wrapping Presents With A Cat*

1. Clear large space on table for wrapping present.

2 Go to wardrobe and collect bag in which present is contained, and close door.

3. Open door and remove cat from wardrobe.

4. Go to cupboard and retrieve rolls of wrapping paper.

5. Go back and remove cat from cupboard.

6. Go to drawer and collect transparent sticky tape, ribbons, scissors, labels, etc.

7. Lay out p resent and wrapping materials on table, to enable wrapping strategy to be formed.

8. Go back to drawer to get string, remove cat that has been in the drawer since last visit, and collect string.

9. Remove present from bag.

10. Remove cat from bag.

11. Open box to check present, remove cat from box, replace present.

12. Lay out paper to enable cutting to size.

13. Cut the paper to size, trying to keep the cutting line straight.

14. Throw away first sheet because cat tried to chase the scissors and tore paper.

15. Cut second sheet of paper to size by putting cat in the bag the present came out of.

16. Place present on cut-to-size paper.

17. Lift up edges of paper to seal in present, wonder why edges now don't reach, and find cat between present and paper. Remove cat and retry.

18. Place object on paper, to hold in place, while cutting transparent sticky tape.

19. Spend next 20 minutes carefully trying to remove transparent sticky tape from cat with pair of nail scissors.

20. Seal paper down with transparent sticky tape, making corners as neat as possible.

21. Look for roll of ribbon; chase cat down hall and retrieve ribbon.

22. Try to wrap present with ribbon in a two-directional turn.

23. Re-roll up ribbon and remove paper that is now torn, due to cat's enthusiasm in chasing ribbon end.

24. Repeat steps 12-22 until down to last sheet of paper.

25. Decide to skip steps 12-16 in order to save time and reduce risk of losing last sheet of paper. Retrieve old cardboard box that you know is right size for sheet of paper.

26. Put present in box, and tie down with string.

27. Remove string, open box and remove cat.

28. Put all packing materials in bag with present and head for lockable room.

29. Once inside room, lock door and start to re-lay out packing materials.

30. Remove cat from box, unlock door, put cat outside door, close door and re-lock.

31. Lay out last sheet of paper. (Admittedly this is difficult in the small area of the toilet, but try your best!)

32. Seal box, wrap with paper and start repairs by very carefully sealing down tears with transparent sticky tape. Now tie up with ribbon and decorate with bows to hide worst affected areas.

33. Label, then sit back and admire your handiwork, congratulating yourself on making good of a bad job.

34. Unlock door, and go to kitchen to make drink and feed cat.

35. Spend next 15 minutes looking for cat, before coming to obvious conclusion.

36. Unwrap present, untie box and remove cat.

37. Retrieve all discarded sheets of wrapping paper, feed cat and retire to lockable room for last attempt, making certain you are alone and the door is locked.

38. At time of handing over present, smile sweetly at receiver's face, as they try and hide their contempt at being handed such a badly wrapped present.

39. Vow to yourself that next year, you will get the store to wrap the thing for you.

Friday afternoon

Ok, its Friday before the Christmas weekend, and the day seems to be moving exceptionally slow.  I don't have very much work to do considering I was at home sick for part of the week.  mental note:: never get a flu shot when you're already sick - even if your doctor says you can since you don't have a fever.

I would leave the office early (like most already have) but my X is at my/our apartment packing.  I feel like if I don't supervise what he's packing, he will inevitably take some of my things. That's the kind of person he is - spiteful and selfish.

I keep forgetting to bring a lunch!  Everyday I go through the list of possible places for a quick lunch but the list is short.  We're close to a mall, so there is only a food court (no, thanks) or Ruby Tuesday - type places.  Is it too much to ask for a Cosi or a nice place that delivers??  The holiday shopper traffic adds 15 minutes to the trip.  Holiday shoppers are a vicious bunch of road ragers!

Off to lunch I go.....

On being sick

Today has been particularly nice, even though I feel a cold coming on.  I was able to sleep late and do some work from home.  My calico cat has developed a habit of burrowing under the blanket to sleep.  Cats are good company - especially when I'm feeling sick.

The new season of Law & Order starts January 2 2008!  I'm interested to see how it plays out with the new assistant DA.  I've been watching the mini-marathon of Law & Order SVU for most of today.

On being punctual

Overall, I am punctual.  I wasn't always.  In my early 20s I would run, on average, 15 minutes late for everything.  This number steadily improved thanks to a few moments of sheer panic on the prospect of arriving late for exams or interviews.  I hate rushing.

As I was driving (quickly) to the office this morning, it struck me that the earlier I wake up, the later I actually leave.  Does this happen to anyone else?   When I wake up early like today, I move at a slower pace.  I have breakfast at the table instead of the car.  Sometimes I even check email.  On the days that I hit the snooze button a few times, I rush through the morning routine.

Easy Like Sunday

I love Sunday.  I had a very relaxing day watching Lord of the Rings on TNT(HD) and playing with the foster kittens.

I volunteer as a foster mom for a non-profit no-kill animal shelter.  Kittens that grow up in a home vs. in a shelter are more sociable, people friendly, and tend usually get adopted faster (this time of year is good for kitten adoptions).
They are very entertaining.  One of the nice things about being a singleton is that I can decide when & how many kits to foster! Three sounded like a good number.  I have 2 cats of my own, so 5 total.
Yea, since there is nothing sexier than a single woman in her 30s with a million cats.

Ch-ch-ch-changes

I cannot wait for this year to be over.  I'd like to skip ahead to January 1 2008, and bypass Christmas and New Years Eve.  (sound crazy?)
I've made some significant life changes in the past few weeks; began a new job, ended a 2-yr relationship, and today I signed the lease for an adorable (but tiny) townhouse.  I'm not moving until early January, but I have already started packing.  It's been unpleasant to sort through the items bought as a couple, and I'd rather take the loss of a toaster than have the headache of arguing with my ex.   Well, almost..

I'm stuck in the limbo of where I want to be vs. where I am (two very different places).  With that on my mind I decided to take a good hard look at my life's road map and wonder how the hell did I get here anyway?

It's been a long time

It has been a long time since I've blogged here.  Looking at my past entries, it isn't much of a blog.

Not that I didn't have anything to say (because I have something to say about everything), but the motivation and time required to blog just wasnt there.    However, recent life events have left me with an abundance of both.

I'll not let it go to waste.
